GREAT SCHOOLS
the academic landscape for
financial planning is shifting
rapidly. here’s where to find the
next generation of advisors.
By Ann Marsh
Katie Simmons, 23, switched her major to financial
planning just before her senior year at San Diego
State University. She’s now a planning associate at
Pure Financial Advisors in San Diego and will sit for
her CFP exam next fall. Simmons says she’s happy
she didn’t go into medicine like some of her friends
who now carry large debt burdens, or into business
like other friends who are struggling to find work.
Had she gone to her two other choices for college,
she might be in either of those professions today.
“I got lucky,” Simmons says. “I feel like this was a
really great last minute career choice.”
